Apache Observability Track

August 6-8, 2021

Online

Track Chairs : Sheng Wu

Observability in software is the ability to understand and explain any state a system can get into, especially in today’s distributed environment. In today’s Apache, only SkyWalking focuses on this field. At the same time, all other projects could have their own observability solution to help their end users to understand the status of the system. In the observability track, we are going to share the experiences how Apache’s projects resolves this complex issue. Also, what tools and methods the ASF provided today to help the users to observe and understand the distributed system.

Use Profiling to Fix the Blind Spot of Distributed Tracing

Chinese Session

Han Liu

Distributed tracing has become more and more essential in the field of observability, but sometimes when using Tracing to analyze the cause of the problem, it’s difficult to find out why the execution time of a Span is so long. I will introduce common analysis methods for this problem and take the Profiling function in SkyWalking as an example to introduce how it is used to achieve code-level execution time positioning. Speakers:

Han Liu: Currently working for Didi company and engaged in software development. Passionate about participating in software development in the field of observability, and become a member of The Apache SkyWalking PMC.

Enhancing Nginx observability with SkyWalking and APISIX

Chinese Session

Ming Wen

Nginx is not friendly about Observability, the only solution is analyzing the log files, no dynamic, and the cost is high. APISIX enhances a lot about this, covers most parts of observability, and with SkyWalking’s support, the observability increased. The immigration efforts from Nginx to APISIX is low, so, all Nginx stack users could easily adopt APISIX to get a better observability out of box. Speakers:

Ming Wen: Apache APISIX VP
