Track Chairs : Ovilia Zhang
In the era of Big Data, data visualization is an important tool to help users quickly understand and explore data. At Apache Software Foundation, we have excellent visualization projects such as Apache ECharts, Apache Superset, etc., which respond to the visualization needs in various scenarios.
The DataVisualization track will focus on data visualization in big data performance, interactive and animation, mobile optimization, cross-platform rendering and many other topics, and is dedicated to exploring more possibilities of data visualization.

Why Apache Superset is Betting on Apache ECharts
English Session
Ville Brofeldt
Apache Superset is a powerful open source visualization platform, having recently graduated from the Apache Incubator and reaching the version 1.0 milestone. This talk walks through the reasons why Apache Superset is transitioning to using Apache ECharts as its main charting library. We’ll share some of the pain points the project was struggling with, and why ECharts was found to be the perfect fit to power Superset going forward. In addition we’ll show what’s on the roadmap and what new exciting features can be expected in the future. Speakers:
Ville Brofeldt: Ville is a committer and PMC member at Apache Superset committer and PMC member, and has a long history of working in various data roles, ranging from predictive analytics, data warehousing, data engineering to data visualization. Ville currently works at Preset Inc, which offers a fully hosted, hassle free cloud service for Apache Superset.

Dirty-rectangle Rendering with Apache ECharts
English Session
Wenli Zhang
The Canvas rendering engine needs to erase the entire canvas and then redraw all the elements. However, for scenes with tens of thousands of graphics in a single Canvas, this usually means interaction lag because of the long redraw time for each frame. Therefore, in Apache ECharts 5, we introduced the dirty rectangle rendering technique to remedy these problems. By erasing and redrawing only the modified parts of the Canvas each time, we can reduce the number of graphics redrawn in each frame and improve the experience of the interaction. In this presentation, I will describe the application of the dirty rectangle rendering algorithm in the visualization domain. Speakers:
Wenli Zhang: Wenli Zhang is the VP and one of the core contributors of Apache ECharts and is passionate about data visualization. She is dedicated to bringing people closer to abstract data through visualization and other means to discover interesting stories in the data.

The challenge of 16ms - Charting tool optimization
Chinese Session
SU SHUANG
In charting tool, the rendering time grows as the amount of data grows. But if the web page needs to be interactive, the computation time has to be limited by an certain upper bound. The presentation introduce some optimization of Apache ECharts to render millions of data while user interaction still enabled, including:
- The background and requirements of this topic.
- Optimization of JS hot code.
- Consideration of memory and GC.
- The pros and cons of using multi-threading.
- Task scheduling and progressive rendering.
Speakers:
SU SHUANG: ECharts PPMC. Maintaining ECharts over 5 years.

Fun with ECharts! -- how we use it in Tesla!
Chinese Session
Fanchao MENG
In Tesla Giga Factory Shanghai, we use ECharts to develop cool dashboards for improving the efficiency of the assembly line. the presentation will cover how we use it in tesla, how we integrate it with superset(a forked one), and how to use it with dash.
the presentation will also provide a simple hands-on tutorial of dash_echarts, which will help people building customized dynamic dashboards easily and quickly! Speakers:
Fanchao MENG: a professional full-stack(overflow) engineer! Hello-World Master! Pythonist and Gopher, love K8s and Container. translator of book , a formal ThoughtWorker, Alibaba, DaoCloud employee, now works at Tesla!

Rendering charts using echarts to present community activity
Chinese Session
Sun Yi
We analyzed the open-source repository by:
1.contributor growth curve
2.monthly contributor activity
to reflect the health of the open-source project, here we share some experiences and some interesting things about how to make these two charts Speakers:

echarts4r: ECharts integration with the R programming language
English Session
John Coene
The R programming language, though initially focused on statistics, has evolved into a true general purpose programming language. R allows easily leveraging other languages such as C, C++, Python, and, more recently, JavaScript.
This talk is about the integration of ECharts with R (echarts4r) to enable programmers to (very) easily create interactive charts from various R datasets, models, and more.
The echarts4r package balances easy-of-use and customisability; one can create most ECharts plots in just 2-3 lines of code but nonetheless customise every aspect of chart: all options of the original JavaScript library are accessible from the R integration, and all chart types are integrated. Speakers:
John Coene: John Coene has 9 years of experience ranging from data analysis to software engineering. The first five of the those years were spent in China working for companies such as Ipsos and Cheetah Mobile. The following 3 were spent in Switzerland at the World Economic Forum. John has recently set up his own consulting company, Opifex.
John is also the author of the soon-published JavaScript for R book (CRC Press R Series).
